Subversive Therapy

Welcome to sweetly subversive. Curl up with your favorite martini or very strong cup of coffee and enjoy some of my favorite politically incorrect quotes, books, music and art. This blog, as well as my store, is not meant for the prudish (republicans and Baptists you've been warned).

Once upon a time, as all good southern daughters, I was raised to be a proper lady. But as we grow, marry, divorce, remarry and bear children we eventually learn along the way that you have to make choices: drink heavily, take large amounts of prescription drugs or commit random acts of violence. Fortunately before any addictions actually took hold (or any crimes actually committed) I found a creative outlet for some of my stress. Thanks to, among others, Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching and Julia Jackson of Subversive Crossstitch, I no longer need therapy. Well, maybe that's a slight exaggeration. But, I haven't injured anyone recently and I am always sober when the children are awake.

Planning for Valentine's Day

Well, Christmas is over and it's time to start another year. How depressing is that? In two more days we'll be finished with all of this New Year's crap and we can move on to other things. Pardon me for my lack of enthusiasm. I'm just not a huge fan of New Year's Eve. And no, I do not make New Year's Resolutions. I don't need a special holiday to set myself up for failure to depress myself for an entire year. And, as far as New Years Eve, I don't need a special day to drink until I do things that I will need an entire year to forget about.

So, moving on. Next on the list is Valentine's Day. I have to admit, Valentine's Day is one of my all time favorite holidays. No, not because of all of the sappy romantic garbage. But, you have to admit, it's hard not to love a day all abut chocolate! Come on - chocolate, jewelry, flowers and you aren't required to by gifts for everyone you know including people whose services you already pay for all year long (hair dresser, mail carrier, dog groomer, garbage men, etc.) and people you don't particularly like (that weird uncle or that evil step-child?!). Anyway, it's time to start planning for Valentine's Day. I have some ideas for some slighty different Valentine gifts. I've just gotten started so come back and visit to see how they are turning out! First, I think I'll pick out my Valentine's Day outfit. Think this is too much?
